Arts Council of Wales

Eisteddfod, the Welsh festival of literaturemusic and performance moved to Anglesey for 2017, and the centre to the celebrations, Y Lle Celf.  A national celebration of visual arts and architecture in Wales, and an important shop window for the industry as well as being among the main attractions on the Maes.

The Brief

As the event has moved north, the brief was to incorporate the A55. Recently Carwyn Jones, the First Minister of Wales, reflecting on North Wales tourism said: “It is about seeing the A55 not just as a road, as it was made to be, but as a way to get to the place you want to go to as a tourist.”

With an area in the entrance 3 x 8metres, Yogi developed a wall exhibition to highlight all the arts activities around the A55. The wall was designed to be updatable, and to allow messages to be left within the structure. This is then enhanced with LED lighting showing the main A55 route through North wales.

Y Lle Celf is the Eisteddfod’s visual arts gallery and it’s one of the most popular buildings on the Maes, attracting up to 40,000 visitors during the week.
